Geographical Processes

First of all, what is a geographical process? Well, in simple terms it is any process that changes the geography within a region. With a bush fire the geography can chance before it begins, during the blaze, and after it has died down, or moved on.

There are two categories as to how bushfires can start, naturally, and with human influences. If a bushfire is started naturally then it is quite common that before the bushfire started there was a period of drought. A very common way that many bushfires start is by a lightning strike. A lightning strikes carry over 100 million volts, which can reach temperatures as high as  30500°C. This much heat is almost certain to start a blaze.

As well as this many bushfires are started as a result of humans. One way that fires are started are by campers. Many times campfires are left unattended, or are not put out correctly, and fire spreads from there. As well as this machinery being used can cause a spark which can lead to a fire in the right circumstances. On top of this people's own carelessness can lead to bushfires too. About 7% of all bushfires are started from people absentmindedly throwing away their cigarettes onto the ground. And on top of this all people purposely lighting fires, unfortunately is a cause as well.

Once a blaze has started it can pass in a few minutes, or blaze for days on end. Many conditions play a part in this, such as wind, and the weather.
